PTC-CSJ and Shining Light Foundation support DepEd's National Learning Camp

AUGUST 11, 2023

PTC-CSJ Foundation, as part of its thrust to help improve education outcomes, specifically the reading skills of young learners, is supporting the Department of Education’s pilot implementation of the National Learning Camp (NLC).

The NLC is a “voluntary three to five-week learning recovery program designed to benefit Kinder to Grade 12 learners in public elementary and secondary schools. DepEd hopes that the NLC will address learning losses arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, among others”.

The NLC’s pilot run started last July 24 and will run until August 25, 2023.

Since 2015, PTC-CSJ has been implementing its annual Reading Camp, a remedial reading intervention with a feeding component, for slow and non-readers during summer vacation. In consultation with its 12 partner-public elementary schools in Muntinlupa City, PTC-CSJ has decided to integrate the 2023 Reading Camp with the NLC.

Thus, PTC-CSJ, in partnership with the Shining Light Foundation (SLF), is supporting the NLC by providing nutritious snacks to 1,120 Grades 2 and 3 learners in its 12 partner schools. The feeding component serves as an incentive for the learners to continue participating in the NLC and addresses the learners’ nutritional requirements as well.
