NOV 18, 2022

Karen Avelino, PTC Executive Director for Business Development, was among the panelists for the 2022 Maritime SheEO session on "Women in Leadership & Boards: Why it matters" held last November 16 at the Taj Santacruz in Mumbai, India.

"Women in the workplace benefits businesses and studies have proven that companies that practice gender equality has a happier labor force, decreased job turnover, and lower levels of attrition," explained Ms. Avelino. "They also have an easier time recruiting, greater rates of retention, job satisfaction, and productivity. Any workplace that can recognize what women need...and that's respect, recognition, empathy, and understanding, benefits all. These traits can oftentimes be overshadowed at work yet they are as essential as a good paycheck."

The Maritime SheEO conference has been held online in 2020 and 2021, being the biggest diversity event in maritime with over 80 countries and 3,600 people participating. The 2022 hybrid conference drew the participation of over 200 industry leaders and more than 2000 attendees virtually.
