PTC's CE Haboc assists CHED in its independent evaluation of Philippine compliance to STCW

APR 1, 2022

C/E Alfredo Haboc, Education & Training Head of the PTC Talent Acquisition Group, joined the CHED OPSD-MARITIME EDUCATION UNIT in the final preparation of the CHED

Independent Evaluation. The report is part of the Philippines' Independent Evaluation as per STCW Regulation 1/7 (Communications of Information on how the country implements STCW provisions on Maritime Education and Training (MET) and Certification in full and complete effect) and Regulation 1/8 (Quality Standards System).

The Independent Evaluation results will be submitted to IMO as part of the Philippines' obligations and the positive results will pave the inclusion of the Philippines to the IMO's “Whitelist” which refers to countries compliant with the proper implementation of the STCW standards. This means that Philippine-issued STCW Certificates will continue to be recognized globally.

The Independent Evaluation started on March 30 and will be completed on April 9, 2022. As part of the evaluation, the Independent Evaluators will visit MARINA, CHED, and DOH, as well as three Maritime Higher Education Institutions, and three Maritime Training Centers and Assessment Centers.
