PTC Cebu joins MARINA’s Day of the Seafarer celebration: A call for harassment-free ships
JULY 4, 2025

In a show of solidarity with the maritime community, PTC, through its Cebu office, participated in the 15th anniversary celebration of the Day of the Seafarer (DotS) 2025, organized by MARINA Regional Office VII on June 25 at the SM Seaside City Cebu.
This year’s celebration carried the theme “My Harassment-Free Ship”, emphasizing the importance of creating safe and inclusive working environments for seafarers. The event, held in coordination with the Cebu Maritime Group, brought together key maritime stakeholders, government agencies, industry leaders, and cadets in a unified stand against bullying, harassment, and abuse onboard ships.
The celebration began with a Thanksgiving Mass presided over by Rev. Fr. John C. Mission, Chaplain of Stella Maris Seafarers’ Center. MARINA VII Director Annabell P. Lagas opened the program by highlighting the significance of MARINA’s ruby anniversary as a symbol of love and the collective support of the maritime community for Filipino seafarers.
Throughout the day, keynote messages from national and international maritime leaders—including MARINA Administrator Sonia Malaluan, DOTr Secretary Vivencio Dizon, and IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez—underscored the sector’s commitment to zero tolerance for harassment at sea.
The event concluded with a united pledge and ceremonial signing led by MARINA VII to reinforce commitment among maritime stakeholders—including PTC—to policy enhancement, education, training, and the creation of safe reporting channels to build truly harassment-free ships.
