To address the needs of Grades 1-3 slow and non-readers, PTC-CSJ
and Synergeia Foundation, in partnership with 12 public
elementary schools in Muntinlupa, launched Reading Camp 2022, a
remedial reading initiative, last July 25.
Since 2016, PTC-CSJ and Synergeia have implemented the Reading
Camp (RC) annually for 15 days during summer vacation. The
initiative was put on hold in 2020 and 2021 when face-to-face
classes were suspended due to the pandemic.

RC 2022 is piloting a seven-day program from July 25 to August 2 with
580 Grades 1-3 learners and 86 teachers who are each handling 6 to 10
learners per class. Feeding is also part of the intervention as the
majority of RC learners are also undernourished; snacks are served
during RC classes.
To assess the learners’ improvement in their reading skills, pretests and post-tests are administered on the first and last days of
the Reading Camp.
All RC teachers underwent a one-day training on July 13 with
Synergeia President Dr. Milwida Guevara as a resource person who
guided them on the modules and teaching strategies.

Lastly, as an incentive, all RC teachers shall be given four service
credits; PTC-CSJ facilitated the request which was approved by
DepEd-Muntinlupa Superintendent, Ms. Carleen S. Sedilla.
Reading Camp 2022 is part of PTC-CSJ Foundation’s flagship
education program, Growing Good to Great Kids or 3G Program.
