PTC CEO Gerardo Borromeo highlights importance of education for a sustainable ocean economy at 2022 Resilience Hub

PTC CEO Gerardo Borromeo joined thought leaders across the globe as he
participated as one of the panelists in the 2022 Resilience Hub, an inclusive
virtual and physical space to mobilize action on resilience at COP27 (2022
United Nations Climate Change Conference).

Mr. Borromeo joined the session on “Building blue/green skills needed for a
safe and sustainable ocean economy,” held last November 14, which explores
what is needed to understand the industrial and geographical skills that will be
required in the future ocean economy; discusses the development of new
curricula, methodologies, and skillsets; and initiates a global conversation about
the safety skills needed, especially in disadvantaged or informal work settings.

“Our biggest challenge whether it’s oceans or any other climate-related problem
is getting an awareness of what the key elements are,” said Mr. Borromeo.
“Building education and training for the long term so that the skills gap can be
limited is very important. As we do that, we hopefully will get better
commitment towards the right thinking in order to ensure sustainability.”

The session also included Ruth Boumphrey, CEO of the Lloyd’s Register
Foundation; Daniela Fernandez, CEO of the Sustainable Ocean Alliance; and
Essam Mohammed, Managing Director of WorldFish.
