Seaspan Ship Management Ltd. held its Manila Forum for Seaspan officers and crew last October 27 to 28, 2017 at the Solaire Hotel in Parañaque. With the theme “Performance Excellence: The Competitive Edge,” the forum was opened by Director for Fleet Personnel Hemraj Shetty and Regional Crewing Representative Richard Ash. Senior Vice President for DPA Erik Nielsen gave a Stat of the Nation address to all attending officers followed by a talk on the Keys to Operational Excellence by Director for Fleet Management Raj Dewan. Other topics discussed on the first day included Leadership in a Challenging Market, Bunker Fuel Loss Prevention, Claims Trends, Managing People and North American Regulatory Updates. The second day featured separate sessions on Machinery and Nautical topics for officers, as well as talks on leadership, communication skills and safety for the ratings.
A fellowship night followed the forum where long-standing Seaspan officers and crew were honored with Service Awards. The night also served as a celebration of the 15-year partnership between Seaspan and Philippine Transmarine Carriers. To commemorate their 15 years with PTC, Seaspan presented an Inukshuk stone monument or cairn traditionally used by the indigenous peoples of North America for navigation and to mark places of veneration. PTC, in turn, gave a sculpture depicting the traditional Filipino game of palo sebo symbolizing the cooperation and partnership between PTC and Seaspan in striving to be the best at sea and moving the world as one.
