President Rodrigo R. Duterte personally welcomed the US-Philippines Society bi-national board, led by Co-chairs Manuel V. Pangilinan and Ambassador John D. Negroponte, during a 90-minute exchange at the Malacañang Palace last February 20. During the meeting, the President cited longstanding US-Philippines ties and expressed optimism for future bilateral cooperation. Philippine economic officials, led by Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez, and American Ambassador Sung Y. Kim participated in a discussion aimed at exploring expanded business opportunities and sustaining strategic cooperation.
PTC CEO Gerardo Borromeo, who currently serves as Director at the US-Philippines Society board, engaged in the discussions representing the maritime sector.
The meeting was part of the Society’s highly successful five-day business mission to the Philippines which included a tour of typhoon recovery assistance projects in Tacloban City.
The US-Philippines Society is a private sector initiative organized to broaden and expand interaction and understanding in the areas of security, trade, investments, tourism, the environment, history, education and culture between the United States and the Philippines.
